Summer vacation: The couple’s guide to smooth-sailing.

It’s cottage, beach, long weekend and travel season. Whether you’ve been in a couple for barely a month or a long year, with the heat waves comes intimacy…or lack thereof. Here are a few tips to keep the flame burning between all you love birds.

Sharing is caring… when you create limits.

I often say that one of the many advantages of dating a girl (when you yourself are a girl) is being able to share make-up and clothes worry free. But borrowers beware! Avoid excess: it isn’t because your bodies sometimes are one that they must be united until death do you part. Hint: when your friends start saying “That’s your girl friend’s right? I thought so.” An itty-bitty bikini is so easy to pass around.

Intimacy is to be respected or in no time “old couple syndrome” will be detected.

Gee! This cottage is so tiny that we are tempted to pee with the bathroom door open. NO! We have to keep certain things to ourselves. Do I need to make it into a jingle “my parts are my parts not yours.”

A Partner in crime is no partner of mine.

Hot dogs, ice-cream, beer, cocktails… the hot hot heat makes us weak to our guilty pleasures. “Just this once, it wont hurt.” It is way to easy to dive into a pint of ice- cream when you have a partner in crime to help you devour it. Beware of wild cravings; it’s good for our emotions but not our waistline.

Catty fights due to high Fahrenheit.

I tell my sweetheart that SPF 60 sunblock is cancerous, she tells me I fish like a beginner, I reply that she doesn’t know how to start a BBQ, we pout in our delegated corners of the tent. Beware: when it is hot, our patience respects tiny little limits. We need to make grand efforts to take deep breaths to avoid a catfight.

To conclude, note that these tips are to be taken with a grain of salt, like a light and lusty summer breeze…happy summer holidays!
