Cocopirate – Paintings by Laurence Leroy

Leave your thoughts

Since suffering a misdiagnosed stroke at the age of 20, Laurence Leroy has been living with a disability.

Eight months in a coma and eight years in and out of hospitals don’t stop her from pursuing her art. Based in Toulouse, France, Laurence — alias Cocopirate — relies on colour and activism to bring her universe and thoughts to light on canvas.

We discovered Laurence’s work in the documentary Cerveaux Mouillés d’Orages. Directed by Karine Lhémon, this important film features the visual artist and her late partner Hélène, who also had a disability. To learn more about the documentary, click here.
