Interview with Nicole Jones – JVL 2020

Leave your thoughts

Questions with Nicole Jones, Yoga teacher in Montreal. Nicole is one of three athletes chosen for a special collaboration with lululemon for lstw #4 magazine. Nicole will offer an online yoga lesson on June 6 as part of Lesbian Visibility Day 2020.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grow up?

When I was very young I remember I wanted to be a teacher. I used to pretend I was correcting assignments and I’d give everyone A’s!

3 words you would use to describe Montreal?

Beautiful, Culture & Food

Your biggest inspiration?

I’m inspired by humans who make a difference. I admire anyone who continuously strives to “be the change” in this world. Humans that are self-aware, courageous, vulnerable and authentic are my biggest inspiration.

How does your sport/sweat impact you?

It changed my life! Yoga gave me not only a welcoming and safe feeling, but it provided me with a sense of belonging. Yoga has taught me to love, appreciate and value myself in ways I never thought were possible. Through yoga I found the strength to battle an eating disorder and create a healthy relationship with food, my body and I learned to love who I am. I would not be where I am today had I not stepped into her first class over 13 years ago.

I try to live the practice in all areas of my life. I do my very best to be authentic in my teaching and allow people the space to lean into their edges – to shift – to dive deeper – to expand – to awaken – to wake up their true self and discover their full potential.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

To spread peace and love across the entire planet! This superpower could ultimately eradicate racism, violence & inequality.

What’s your favorite part of the day?

My early morning rituals. I wake up super early in order to get solo self-care time in, it’s how I get rooted and grounded for my day. Every morning I enjoy my coffee, meditation and yoga practice before I do anything else.

How do you take care of yourself?

I practice yoga and meditation everyday. I also make a point of consuming healthy food to fuel my heart, body, mind and soul. Self-care is high on my list of priorities, I truly feel we can only show up for others to the depth at which we show up for ourselves.
